Business Advisor

Summary of Responsibilities:
Business Advisors serve as business experts offering business advice and technical assistance to Washington C.A.S.H. clients through one-on-one in-person or phone consultations to help them start or expand their small businesses.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Complete a questionnaire to determine areas of subject matter and industry expertise, availability and contact information.
  • Note: Business Advisor information will be viewed by staff alone; clients will not have access to information. There is a discreet screening process in which staff identify client needs and volunteer compatibility, and then contact appropriate Business Advisor volunteers to determine availability and interest in working with the client.
  • Meet on the phone or in person with clients for one-hour consultations.
  • Complete an brief, electronic “Consultation Report” to assist in tracking client progress and volunteer hours invested.

Time Commitment:
A minimum commitment of one hour a week for 6 months is preferred.  Business Advisors are free to determine their own schedules and availability.

Qualifications:

  • Business Advisors must have experience in starting or growing their own business or have basic knowledge of key areas of small business development.
  • Business Advisors must be passionate about contributing to the mission of Washington C.A.S.H. and supporting small business owners, and must believe in the abilities and potential of the people we serve.
  • Business Advisors must be able to suspend judgment and listen deeply. They must be patient and understanding of the many personal obstacles to business-ownership our clients encounter.
  • Business Advisors are encouraged to attend our 8-week business development training course as a coach prior to or during their commitment to learn more about where our clients are when they come to us and where they are when they graduate from the training.
