Communications Manager

Reports to:     Executive Director

Hours/Days:    Part-time (20 hrs/wk), some evenings and weekends    

ORGANIZATION

Washington C.A.S.H. (Community Alliance for Self-Help) empowers aspiring entrepreneurs with limited resources—and unlimited potential. We provide the hands-on education, in-depth support, and access to capital needed to launch and grow successful small enterprises.

Washington C.A.S.H. is 17 years old, employs approximately 20 staff and instructors, operates on an annual budget close to $1.9 million, and regularly operates programs in five facilities around Puget Sound outside of its headquarters in Southeast Seattle.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Communications Manager will be responsible for developing and executing a communications and marketing strategy to drive awareness, volunteer support, and financial support. This includes maintaining marketing materials, messaging, and outreach efforts to donor, customer, and client audiences of Washington C.A.S.H.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and drive a comprehensive donor focused communications strategy.
  • Develop communications plan and materials to support fundraising activities, including events and fundraising campaigns.
  • Lead production of organization Annual Report.
  • Develop, design, and maintain collateral materials, including donor handouts, presentations, event fliers and invitations, promotional materials and advertising for retail store, client outreach, and exhibit displays.
  • Write and publish website content, articles, interviews, and Facebook/Twitter updates. Produce newsletters, email campaigns, annual reports, event invitations, and other publications (online and offline) as needed.
  • Manage public relations and media relations for program and retail store; occasionally coordinate and/or support community promotional events. Create and distribute press releases.
  • Serve as brand steward, owning content of messaging across formats to ensure consistency and appropriateness.
  • Maintain communications and marketing related information in a database.
  • Perform other duties as deemed necessary by the Executive Director.

REQUIRED SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will combine top-quality writing skills, strong web creation/editing and social media experience, and the ability to design and keep marketing materials up-to-date using standard graphic design software tools. She or he will be able to articulate a clear and energetic commitment to the mission and values of the organization, and will be comfortable setting the pace in a high-energy business environment with a strong ethic of collaboration.

  • Bachelors degree and 2+ years experience in marketing and communications (experience writing for a donor audience a plus).
  • Excellent writing and editing skills (please provide samples).
  • Strong design skills with mandatory experience/facility in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, as well as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Experience with Drupal or similar content management system (CMS) for websites. Ability to create/troubleshoot basic HTML.
  • Experience with email management service such as iContact or similar system (experience with donor database software such as Sage or SalesForce a plus).
  • Knowledge of website analytics and optimization, SEO, and social media marketing.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and detail-oriented work approach.
  • Photography skills a plus.
  • Ability to adapt and work within the organizational culture and to work effectively with diverse communities.
  • Ability to operate under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently on projects and also collaborate as a strong team member.

 

COMPENSATION

Initial salary will be $20,000 for ½ time position.
