Dear Friends,
The leaves aren't the only things changing this fall, Washington CASH has a lot of exciting change going on as well!
I
would like to welcome two our new staff members, Arkia Northern as our
Executive Assistant and Sofia Michelakis as our Loan Manager. Arkia joined
us in August and comes to us from the Minority Executive Directors Coalition
of King County. As a native of eastern Washington , she is enjoying the
cooler days of western Washington.
Sofia , a reformed attorney
joined Washington CASH in September. After returning from Chile , where
she was an Entrepreneur-in-Resident with NESsT, she joined her father
as general manager at his auto dealership.
I am very happy to have these two talented women join the staff.
I would like to thank staff members Laura Zera and Annie Dunn for their amazing work and dedication to Washington CASH. Laura Zera was instrumental in the implementation of our $150,000 Hewlett Packard grant (our largest private donation to date!). Laura moved on this summer to a project management position at Boeing, but she is still seen around Washington CASH as a business group mentor! Annie Dunn has directed the business development and lending services for the past year. She has solidified the program structure and improved service to our clients in every aspect of the program. Annie will be moving to Australia this fall with her husband to continue her economic development pursuits on the other side of the world.
There are a number of exciting events coming up including a Wine and Cheese, Annual Showcase, and Soup Night at the Columbia Tower Club, so please RSVP if you'd like to join us at any of those events!
Sincerely,
Melany Brown
Executive Director

Washington CASH clients take out loans:
Emerald Spokes Fuel H20
Candi
Wilvang always has some exciting news to share. Her business has grown
with Washington CASH - and she has now taken out her second loan of $1,000
to purchase a laptop for her business. What's next for Emerald Spokes?
The addition of a laptop to the business will allow Candi to take souvenir
pictures of her customers and edit and produce prints on her computer.
She will also be adding other products to compliment her service business
- things such as Emerald Spokes water bottles. For a tour or pedalcab
ride OR for information about advertising on one of the two Emerald Spokes
bikes - contact Candi at ride@emeraldspokes.com
or 206.383.5426.
Serendipity Vintage
Pierce
County client Barbara Kihara , proud owner of Serendipity Vintage, sells
high end vintage fashion including clothes, shoes, handbags, jewelry and
other accessories. She sells dozens of items each month through Ebay.
She has an eye for quality and a taste for fine details that she expresses
all the way down to the way she packages the treasures her customers buy.
It would not be unusual to open a package from Serendipity Vintage and
find your purchase delicately wrapped in a pressed vintage handkerchief
or pretty paper. These special touches give Barbara Kihara the edge over
thrift stores and flea markets - she finds the treasures, polishes them
up, and presents them in perfect condition for her discerning customers.
Barbara is anxious to spend her second loan of $1,000 on some technology
upgrades, some inventory, even a company vehicle that she will use to
make deliveries and to pick up inventory. To contact Serendipity Vintage,

Malania
Calugas has been with Washington CASH for nearly four years - and has
just been approved for her third loan with Washington CASH of $2,500!
Her business, Realite Networks is what she calls a one-stop small business
shop. She will help small businesses with everything from marketing and
outreach materials (ask about her packages that include logo, business
cards, letterhead, etc), web design and card services so you can start
to accept credit cards - or create your own gift cards. The latest news
from Realite is their IWEB - which is an intranet that can be customized
to your workplace and provide a central location for files and communication
within your company. Malania's third loan will go toward technology upgrades.
To contact Realite Networks, email malania@realiteweb.com
or call 206.920.7296.
