Dear Friends, Our fundraising dinner, Banking on Dreams, is just around the corner! Please let us know ASAP if you are interested in attending on Wednesday, May 18 from 6:00 until 8:30 p.m. RSVP to Zanne at zanne@washingtoncash.org or 206.352.1945.
2005 is the International Year of Microcredit, as declared by the United Nations. This week, I am in Portland, OR at the Association for Enterprise Opportunity (AEO) annual conference. The AEO conference brings together hundreds of microenterprise development organizations from all over the United States. In order to advance the microcredit movement in the world, we must do our part to improve the best practices here in the US; and this conference provides the forum for the dissemination of new ideas.
Many people have only heard of microcredit, especially peer-lending, in an international context. Peer-lending is the practice where client entrepreneurs themselves have the ultimate decision-making power regarding the readiness of their loan group members to receive loans. There are 30 peer-lending microcredit institutions in the United States and Washington CASH is one of them! Help us spread the word about this important movement and Washington CASH's part by coming to our "Bring a Friend" Wine and Cheese at our office from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 9. I hope you can come and bring someone!
Sincerely, Melany Brown Executive Director
